Attractions in Anjuna

Flea Market

On a particular day called “market day”, people from all walks of life, irrespective of how busy they are arrive in Anjuna to buy various items ranging from clothing to electronics, vegetables to jewellery and much more. Hunting through rubbish (literally) they leave the Flea Market with treasures. Even  if you aren’t interested in buying stuff, it is still an ideal location to hang out with friends or family.

Chapora Fort

One of the few Forts in Goa built before the arrival of the Portuguese, rumour is that it was erected at the site of a previous fort before the Portuguese even arrived in Goa. Later the fort was used by many to attack the Portuguese, the Portuguese even used it to protect the people and provide them with cover during the war. The fort has a lot of historic significance and shares a great part of the Goan culture.

Water Sports

Anjuna is known for its amazing water sports, although the same activities exists in Calangute and Baga, the crowds at Anjuna beach aren’t as intense and that just adds to the enjoyment.

Anjuna, Tips and Secrets

The hawkers and chia wala’s get really irritating while sitting on the beach reading a book or just enjoying the sunset, to avoid them it would be wise to sit at a shack on the beach, they usually do not dare enter.

The beach and its waters are cleaner here than many beaches in Goa so its a  good place to hang out or go for a swim, many have claimed that the best places to swim are in front of the shacks ‘Curlies’ or ‘Shorebar’.

Anjuna, Goa – How to get there

Anjuna is located in the Bardez sub district of North Goa. To its extreme North is Vagator and to its far South you’d find Baga, both of which are well known beaches.

If you’re heading North along National Highway, follow the road until you reach Porvorim, turn left at the Sangolda Cross Road at the bottom of the Porvorim slope. Keep heading North East along this road until you hit the Mapusa-Assagao main road, here you take a left and follow the road till you reach Anjuna.
