Tucked away in the hidden pockets of Agonda, the Simrose Resort is an idyllic getaway, surrounded by the glittering golden sands of the beach and swaying palm trees. The owners promise; it offers the kind of hospitality and service that makes you feel like a member of their family.
As you step into the quintessential sussegaad ambience of the resort, you’re first greeted by their cosy-looking lounges. Guests can be seen unwinding here all day, sipping their drinks, reading, chatting with each other, even snoozing on the enormous cushions.
Where accommodation is concerned, you are truly spoilt for choice. You can pick between 12 luxurious sea-facing beach huts, five rooms in a stone house and three stone cottages – we definitely recommend the former. All the huts are made from dark wood, lined with natural wool felted carpets from Nepal and decorated with pretty pictures from around Agonda. One of their major attractions are the open-air bathrooms – it’s quite an exciting experience to take a shower under the swinging coconut trees! They also have these beautiful colourful light garlands hanging from one coconut tree to another; and every evening, candles are lit everywhere, making the entire area look snug and romantic.
The resort’s beachfront restaurant has delicious food, a beautiful view of the turquoise sea and a relaxed ambience. You can enjoy your meal whilst listening to the soothing sounds of waves or their carefully selected lounge music, sitting under the cool shade provided by the palm trees.
Besides a regular menu with traditional fare, the restaurant offers fortnightly specials in which they try to include seasonal local products such as sweet potatoes or pumpkins. They also bake their own dark bread and cakes. In the garden, they experiment with different herbs and vegetables – so don’t miss out on the freshly picked spinach, tomatoes, and rocket salads served on your dinner plates. On their menu, the beef steaks, seafoods and salads come highly recommended.
To chill out with a post-lunch cold drink, you can snuggle up in one of their private cabanas or lie down on a sun bed. For wellness treatments, yoga and meditation guests can avail of experienced therapists and teachers guiding them in their daily yoga practices on a small terrace area exclusively dedicated to this purpose.
The resort’s guests are a versatile group spread across different ages and nationalities, ranging from families with kids, expats, honeymoon couples, small groups of friends, to Indian tourists – all staying under one roof.
Simrose is owned by Binesh, a Nepali gentleman, who considers Goa his home. A former professional chef, he is the one who prepares the specials, personally supervises the chefs, and gives his inputs on every dish – possibly what makes the dining experience here extra special.
In the future, Binesh hopes to launch a resort which runs all year long. As of now – they have opened another small resort in Agonda, located a 10 minute walk away from Simrose, called Sea Star.
So next time you’re in this quaint little beach town, you know where to head.
