The Place
Goa is already famous for the trifecta of a good time, namely Sun, Sea & Sand. Trip, a resto bar situated on Morjim beach (nesting and hatching habitat of the Olive Ridley sea turtle) adds a fourth dimension to the good times – Food!
Priya Thakur partnering up with Sarfraz Alam, envisioned Trip as a winter getaway from her endeavours at Larisa Mountain Resort situated in the mountains of Manali. Situated right on the beach the place offers an amazing view of the evening sunset and relaxing feel of the sea breeze while you sip your Sun Set cocktail. Blending the natural surroundings into the decor and ambience of the setup you get a very natural and minimalist feel to the place.
If you like to feel the sand on your feet or just want to laze around the entire day then you can sit in the cosy cottages outside closer to the beach.
Music is an integral part of the Goan lifestyle. Listening to a live band perform while savouring your food is part of the gastro experience. Trip make an effort to provide this experience by featuring weekly live performances by local bands and international artists. Stay tuned to their Facebook page to know about these performances.
In addition to Trip Priya along with Sarfraz, has also set up boutique resort called Larisa Beach Resort. An extension of her mountain resort and situated beside the Resto Bar, Larisa Beach Resort has luxurious air-conditioned cottages each with their own sea facing jacuzzi.
The Drinks
True to its name the cocktails offered here mixed with the salty sea breeze, gives you an amazing high. Trip offers some interesting signature cocktails with exotic ingredients and very generous alcohol content. The Lock, Stock and Smoking barrel is a vodka based mixtures containing smoked pineapple chunks, pineapple juice and monin vanilla. For those who like their whisky, the New Old Fashioned offers an assorted mixture of Bourbon with a dash of Tobasco sauce garnished with green apple, orange, basil and sugar cubes.
For those wanting their coffee fix and spirit high the Howling Wolf, vodka and espresso, offers just that.
A Gin Soaked Jungle made of Gin, cucumber and coriander, offers a refreshing drink after an afternoon swim in the sea.
The Food
Trip offers a wide array of cuisine; tapas, pasta, mezze, sushi, pizza, seafood grill, bbq meat and much much more.
To start with you can try the Jalapeno Potato Croquettes served with a spicy salsa sauce. Served right out of the frying pan still steaming hot, you can feel the cheese melts aways in your mouth along with the crunchiness of the potato covering.
Among the salads, the Trip House Salad offers a mix of leafy and rooted vegetables. You can also add smoked chicken, shrimp or bacon chips to it for a complete meal.
If you love Pizza then you are in for a treat. Trip serves a wide variety of authentic thin crust pizza. Unlike the commercially available instant pizzas, these are made with whole-wheat base and freshly prepared toppings. Try the Classic Margherita pizza if you like your pizza to be simple and tasty. The Mixed Sea Food or the Spicy Prawn Pizza are seafood based. The BBQ Chicken Cheddar and Goat Cheese Pizza are for those looking for their cheese fix.
Trip is one of the few if not the only place offering a wide variety of sushi on their menu. Served in all styles; baikal, tempura, tomago, dragon and spicy, you have an array of choices.
The California Roll is rolled with King Prawn, avocado and mayonnaise sprinkled with caviar.
The Vegetable Roll is a classic alternative for the vegetarians.
And for those that cannot make up their mind choose the Assorted Sushi & Rolls which serves two rolls each of different sushi available on the menu.
Side note by author:
I am on a quest to find the best sushi served in Goa. Having tried sushi at a number of places including starred and award winning restaurants no one comes close in taste and quality to Trip. The best sushi I have had so far in Goa is at Trip!
For the mains, you have a wide array of meats, vegetable and seafood dishes to choose from.
If you like a wide variety of seafood then you can go for the Feast Seafood Platter. This contains a combination of grilled, baked and braised seafood like prawns, calamari and a large chunk of fish served with tomato broth.
Other seafood dishes on offer that you must try are the Giant Tiger Prawns, Baked Almond Caper Basa and Sizzling Shrimps.
The Seafood Risotto is a delicious dish of arborio rice cooked in white wine, cream and yellow butter all served with prawns and calamari.
For those who like their meat spicy and juicy, the Lemon Spring Indian Lamb Chops offer just that.
Some other dishes to look out for are Wild Mushroom Stroganoff, Penne Arrabiata, Chicken Lasagne and Parmesan Potato.
No meal is complete without a dessert. The Baklawa is a honey soaked nuts layered sweet stuffed in homemade rose petal gelato. Feel the crunchiness of the nuts and you chew into the gooey gelato topping.
If you like chocolate and baked cakes then try the Almond Mud Cake served with a scoop of ice cream.
The Verdict
Unlike most other restaurants in Goa, Trip is one of the very few places that offers you everything you need to have a good time at one location. With such a wide offering, it will definitely take you several visits to try everything on the menu. In addition to the good food, the seaside ambience and good music, all give you ample opportunities to visit this place again and again. Priya’s passion and dedication towards her customer’s experience are all evident from the amazing ambience, attention to details and the quality of the food & service.
Trip is a must visit restaurant in Goa!
