The Verandah Restaurant at Panjim Inn | Panjim
After an exhilarating adventure through the pretty little city that is Panjim comes the highlight of your day: digging into an absolutely delectable Goan meal. If culinary authenticity blended with delectability is what you seek in your food, head to The Verandah, the restaurant cosily located on the first floor of Panjim Inn.
With its marble topped tables and antique decor, The Verandah, which overlooks the quaint Fontainhas junction, has a distinct old-world charm. Sitting in the balcony here, you can take in the sounds and smells of Goa’s Latin past.
The menu features a variety of Goan delights and my instinct was to request “one of each”. I started my meal with bowl of Caldo Verde, a Portuguese vegetable soup. A well-balanced start to my dinner, the broth was refreshing and tasty. It restored my energy and prepared me for my main course.
After skimming through the list of mains, I zeroed down on the classic Pork Vindaloo. Spicy as it was, it did not set fire to my taste buds, and I was allowed to enjoy the multitude of flavours in each bite without begging for a glass of water. However, if the production of tears is your definition of a good meal, then I’m sure the restaurant could comply. I rounded off the meal with a bowl of creamy Serra Durra, a traditional Portuguese dessert whipped out of condensed milk, cream and topped with a layer of biscuit crumbs – truly soothing to the palate.
Since I was staying at the hotel, I could enjoy the breakfast the next morning too, which was a buffet spread of both Indian and Western breakfast staples, fresh fruit and omelettes prepared to your specification. Throughout my meals during my stay at Panjim Inn, the service by the hotel staff was excellent.
Foodies in Panjim, don’t give this one a miss.
